The Need For Alzheimer Treatment Is Critical

Raising Awareness

The Canada-France Global Dementia Legacy Event was held in Ottawa to raise awareness about the need to accelerate research for treatment and services. The rise of dementia is of epidemic proportions; CBCNews writes, “According to the government, an estimated 747,000 Canadians were living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia in 2011. In two decades, it is estimated that 1.4 million Canadians will have dementia, costing the economy almost $300 billion per year.”

We do not want to reach a point where the people who suffer from this disease would outweigh treatment and services. Imagine our already stressed healthcare weighed down with people who can’t make critical decisions for themselves. Which is a significant symptom of the Alzheimer disease. As the article mentions, the focus is to accelerate research to create real life products and services to delay and prevent the onset of dementia.

Besides other announcements made by Health Minister Rona Ambrose, we think the significance of the “Dementia Friends” program is great. It’s a program to help Canadians become better informed about how to support people living with dementia. Education on mass scale is the key to getting the world to understand. By understanding how to treat, and care for people with dementia.

Other Treatments

Besides drug treatments, which you can get information about from the doctor, there are natural remedies that you can try to improve the signs and symptoms of dementia. For example, eating healthy foods, doing brain exercises daily. There are also creative techniques caregivers can use to calm a person with dementia to prevent behaviour outbursts.  Looking for other creative options to support someone with dementia? We’d be happy to put together a program for you. Please contact us at info@DementiaSolutions.ca or call 778-789-1496.
