For Families Getting Started
What is Dementia?
Dementia is a condition that has impaired the brain's ability to remember, think, and make decisions, which interferes with doing everyday activities. Alzheimer's is the most common form of dementia. Dementia is not a disease, rather it is a category of similar mental conditions where cognitive function deteriorates.
Know the Signs
There are eight known warning signs of dementia a family member should not ignore: short-term memory problems, frequently losing items, getting lost/disoriented, not recalling how to perform basic tasks, changes in mood and personality, increased apathy, language problems, and concerned family members.
