 An Advocate For Alzheimer’s Disease

There’s just so much to love about David Hyde Pierce. He is a great actor, who was extremely funny as the character Niles Crane in the old TV show Frasier. He’s won many Emmy Awards for his various work. He’s a winner in our eyes because he’s such an avid advocate for Alzheimer’s disease. He has worked so hard, and uses his superstar power to bring attention to the disease that ravages families and communities.

Alzheimer’s disease has affected David’s life directly, as he lost both his grandfather and father to it. David understands the gravity of our situation today. There are hoards of baby boomers all over the world who are coming into their golden years and many of them will have to deal with the disease directly. Even if you are a person affected, or indirectly, or a caregiver to your family. It is estimated that 500,000 Canadians have Alzheimer’s and the number is always growing. Unfortunately, at this time there is no cure, but if we raise our voices, like David, we will prevail with better treatments and even a cure, someday.

A Humanitarian Who Fights For The Disease

Looking at what he’s done, we see David working with the American Alzheimer’s Association starting in 1994. Even while filming for the sitcom Frasier three weeks of each month, he dedicated the remaining week every month in helping the association raise awareness and funds. He was awarded the Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award® in 2010. And a humanitarian member of the theatre community and spending many hours of advocacy and dedication for fighting the disease. David still speaks about the disease at events. He attends interviews with major news broadcasters, and emcees numerous occasions, large galas and fundraisers. Here’s an example of David’s interview on CBS News about Raising Awareness About Alzheimer’s HERE

All in all, we are glad there are people out there, who can raise this kind of awareness for Alzheimer’s disease. We salute you David Hyde Pierce for using your stardom for a good cause, and a cause that truly affects the world.

To a star who cares, we like and respect what you do David!
