Does Hypnotheraphy Work?

There are studies that have been done to prove that brain function can be altered in people with dementia, using hypnotherapy.

Some people truly believe in hypnosis and there are others, who are skeptical. It is said that hypnosis gained a bad rap. Mostly because entertainers claim to use it to make people act out in strange ways, at parties and shows. However, if we look at the serious side of hypnosis as therapy, we might be surprised at the power it has for healing.

A Therapeutic Technique

According to the American Psychological Association “Hypnosis is a therapeutic technique in which clinicians make suggestions to individuals who have undergone a procedure designed to relax and focus their minds.” The power lies in the hypnotherapist’s ability to relax someone to the point that their mental ability is open to accepting suggestions. The usual image is someone swinging a pocket watch to mesmerize you going under. What this shows is, in hypnosis you are be able to relax and focus on an object so well that you are not aware of your surroundings anymore.

According to the University of Liverpool in the U.K., “Using hypnosis can slow the impacts of dementia and improve quality of life for those living with the condition.” In this study, hypnosis positively affected people with dementia. Their memory, concentration, daily motivation for doing activities and even ability to relax has improved.

There are many hypnotherapists in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. And it might be a good idea to find out more and even give the therapy a try. Hypnosis does not harm a person, and it may even help them.

Do you know of an alternative therapy that’s helped your loved one with Alzheimer’s disease? Let us know so we can discuss it.
