Mediterranean Cooking One Of The Prevention

The smell of garlic and olive oil wafts in a Tuscan or Corfu kitchen. The cutting board displays fresh cuts of white fish and dark green Rapini ready to be chopped. What do you think these foods have to do with Alzheimer’s disease? Well, these and other Mediterranean ingredients have been proven to decrease our chances of developing the disease.

According to the CBC News article, Mediterranean Diet Cuts Alzheimer’s Risk, people who eat a Mediterranean style diet lowers their risk of mental decline.  If you add exercise to these healthier food choices it decreases this risk even more. In 2006, the study show that people with this type of healthier lifestyle had a 40% lower chance of developing Alzheimer’s disease.  Among are 1,880 mixed race/ethnicity Americans and those who got the most physical activity have a better chance of not getting the disease.  What does this mean? If we follow a Mediterranean diet and exercise regularly it will decrease the chance of getting Alzheimer’s disease by almost 67%!
